Midlothian Sub Aqua Club is part of the Scottish Sub Aqua Club (ScotSAC). The training programme we deliver is laid down by SCOTSAC and consists of both practical excercises in the pool and open water and also some theory elements.
The training is structured into different levels and begins initially with the Branch Diver Award. You can progress through the levels at your own pace as your experience and confidence increases.
Full details of the different levels of Diving Awards and exactly what is expected in each level is detailed on the SCOTSAC Web Site.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
You must become a member of ScotSAC which covers you for insurance purposes. Full details of the current cost of membership can be found on the SCOTSAC Web Site. In addition there is a small fee charged by the club to cover the costs of the pool hire and service of diving equipment. More detailed information can be found here.
What equipment do I need?
You don't need any of your own equipment to start training as all the diving kit you will need initially is provided by the club. As you progress in your training to Open Water you will need either a semi dry suit or a dry suit. These items are not provided.
Do I need to be a good swimmer?
This sport does require a reasonable level of fitness and confidence in the water. Before your training begins there is a short swimming assessment which requires you to swim a certain amount of lengths and perform certain other tasks like retrieving objects from the bottom of the pool.
